My specialties:
I specialize in working with the 2SLGBTQIA+ population as well as neurodivergent folks.
I also help clients manage symptoms stemming from:
Anxiety
Depression
Existential fear/dread
Low self-esteem/self-worth
Perfectionism
My approach:
I mainly work from a holistic framework, mixing Humanistic and Narrative lenses to support clients working towards the goals that are important to them.
I use this approach because it acknowledges the societal impacts on mental health and how a client’s context influences their relationship to the symptoms they experience.
To help with skills building, I often pull tools from Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
My values:
It is important to me to create a therapeutic environment that is welcoming for clients from marginalized backgrounds.
For me this means:
working within a intersectional, social justice-oriented framework
presuming the client’s competence as experts on their own life and experience of their symptoms
continuing to stay up-to-date on advances in 2SLGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and neurodivergent research
upholding the recommendations presented in the Autism Self-Advocacy Network’s white paper
challenging oppressive narratives and practices when they come up in sessions
believing that there is no “one right way” to do psychotherapy and that means we can be flexible with what works for your brain
